McDonald, President of McDonald Automotive Group, was born and raised in
Littleton, Colorado. He graduated from Mullen High School in the class of 1985,
and earned a B.A. in Business from the University of Oklahoma. Michael is also
a graduate of the NADA Dealer Academy and has served in the Colorado Metro Auto
Following graduation, Michael returned to Colorado to begin his career at the automotive company his grandfather started over 66 years ago. Three generations of McDonalds have operated McDonald Automotive from their Littleton location for more than 50 years.
Michael began his automotive career working at his family's dealership detailing cars, organizing parts and working in the service bays. He learned the business from the ground up and has worked in every department. This hands-on experience gave Michael an appreciation and working knowledge of the challenges his employees face on a daily basis.
Eventually Michael moved through various sales positions and was promoted to F&I Manager for the Volkswagen store. While the Volkswagen store began to thrive, Michael and his family made the decision to expand the company and acquire an Audi franchise. Michael became its first sales manager and later went on to become the General Manager for each of the group's five franchises (Volvo, Mazda, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Audi). Today, Michael serves the company as President.
While responsible for the company's day-to-day financial performance, Michael is equally focused on preserving the culture of the company his grandfather started in 1948. Michael understands the importance of customer service and community involvement.
Michael is passionate about serving his community through the variety of fundraising committees for local initiatives. Michael and the McDonald Automotive Group have had strong partnerships with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Children's Diabetes Foundation and the Denver Rescue Mission. They organize and participate in many local initiatives including two annual golf tournaments that raise funds for the Children's Diabetes Foundation.
In addition to his automotive career, Michael has partnered with his brother, David, to create Escalante Golf, a boutique owner and operator of luxury golf properties across the country. Since its establishment in 1991, Escalante Golf has grown to own and manage 17 courses in a range of locations from California to Florida. It is one of the few privately owned companies to host multiple PGA Tour events - The WGC World Match Play Championship at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain and the Shell Houston Open at the Golf Club of Houston. With more than 20 years of operational experience, this company continues to grow and expand much like the family's automotive business.
Michael and his wife, Jane, have been married nineteen years and have three wonderful children. In his off time, Michael enjoys traveling with his family, attending his children's sporting events and activities, as well as playing rounds of golf with his good friends.
